Artist Statement
I am a young artist from Milton Keynes studying Fine Art and Art History at Aberystwyth University. Growing up, art has always been my favourite hobby, and I have always had so much encouragement from my family. My Grandma, who is an artist herself, is my biggest inspiration. I have lots of memories of us making art together and learning from her example. As I have gotten older, I have become more aware of my mental health including my struggle with anxiety. To help with self-care artistic expression has been a great outlet for me, allowing me to drift off into a bubble of creativity.
When I create pieces, I aim to make work that encompasses a memory or a person because I make work for the people close to me, family and friendships are something I value highly. I like to use artistic creation as a form of documentation, recreating photos, pictures of houses and buildings, or objects that have significance. My process is based on an idea for a gift or decoration. Once I have this idea, I plan my medium and presentation and then get to work. The aim is to create something that can be displayed or kept as a token of memories. For me, art is all about manifesting our imagination into new forms. I’d love to be able to use my abilities to create this for lots of people around the world. I have only recently started working on illustration as a discipline; however, I aim to work with children’s book illustrations and create work that inspires and teaches our future generation of kids.
I work mainly with painting and printmaking as my primary media. For painting, I have always used acrylic, but in the past few years I learnt how to use oil paint, and I think it complements my style much more. I do enjoy mixing my media, though, with things like watercolour and gouache. My work in printmaking has been very experimental using a mixture of techniques like woodcut, etching and aquatint but I have created some of my favourite pieces. For my work in illustration, I primarily use watercolour, pen and ink.
